San Francisco Giants Vs. Colorado Rockies 8/12/12
Mark’s Free MLB Baseball Pick
Colorado's season from a competitive stand point is over and has been for quite sometime. Having said that, the Rockies can take a few teams down with along the way and who better than division rival San Francisco? The Rockies knocked off the Giants Friday but were paid back on Saturday in a 9-3 defeat. Colorado has won three of five which is good by the way things have gone for the majority of 2012. Having said that, the Rockies need more consistency on the mound and at the plate which didn't happen Saturday. Starter Drew Pomeranz gave up four runs in only four frames followed by Josh Roenicke who allowed four more in just two innings. The offense never had a chance with their nine hit attack led by a solo jack off the bat of DJ LeMathieu. The Rockies hand the ball to Alex White who has gone six straight starts without a victory. White comes off a 3-1 win over the Dodgers in which he tossed four shutout innings but walked five.
San Francisco picked up a crucial win over Saturday that not only ended a mini two game slide but also enabled the Giants to pick up a game on the Dodgers who lost. The Giants have won six of nine overall behind strong offense but when SF has lost, the bats have been silent. SF needs more consistency all around and got it in a big way Saturday behind a strong performance from Matt Cain who was touched for a pair of runs on seven hits over 7.1 frames. That effort was plenty good enough with the bats connecting on 13 hits while walking four times. Buster Posey paced the attack with a two run bomb while Angel Pagan drove in two more. Left hander Barry Zito toes the rubber in the final game of the series looking to build on a 4-2 win over St Louis. Zito allowed just two runs on eight hits on a pair of home runs over 6.2 innings.
When San Francisco has scored they have generally come out on top and the bats might need to be on alert if Zito is off his game. I'm taking the Giants here and hoping the offense isn't needed (I'm talking to you Zito)...
Mark’s Pick: San Francisco -150
