Baltimore Orioles Vs. New York Yankees 4/10/12
Mitch’s Free MLB Baseball Pick
The Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees face off for game two of their series at Camden Yards.
The Baltimore Orioles finally lost for the first time this season as they fell to the Yankees on Monday. The Orioles had 13 hits but they were able to score just two runs. Matt Wieters had four hits and a home run and Mark Reynolds, Chris Davis, and Robert Andino each had two hits each in the loss. Starter Brian Matusz allowed six hits and four runs lasting just four innings to take the loss as Baltimore used five pitchers in all. For Tuesday’s game the Orioles start Wei-Yin Chin who played on the Chinese Taipei national team. Chen has lost some velocity off of his fastball so it will be interesting to see how resourceful he is as he moves to the United States and the majors.
The New York Yankees finally got their first win of the season as they dominated the Orioles on Monday. The Yankees scored six runs off of 11 hits in the win. Andruw Jones had a home run and scored twice, Derek Jeter had four hits, and Curtis Granderson had a hit and scored twice. Starter Ivan Nova allowed 10 hits and two runs while striking out seven over seven innings to earn the win and Mariano Rivera closed it out in a non-save situation. For Tuesday’s game New York starts Freddy Garcia who wasn’t slated to be a starter this year but with injuries he gets another chance to earn a starting spot. Last season Garcia went 12-8 with a 3.62 ERA allowing 152 hits and 59 earned runs while striking out 96 over 146.2 innings of work.
Baltimore is 4-1 in their last five games overall, 7-3 in their last 10 games as a home underdog, and 6-2 in their last eight home games against a right handed starter. New York is 2-4 in their last six games as a favorite, 1-7 in their last eight games against the A.L. East, and 7-3 in Garcia’s last 10 starts. New York is 17-6 in their last 23 games in Baltimore.
The Yankees have cracked the seal and should have no problem here but with Chen going it’s an unknown commodity and in good conscience I can’t give this as a Premium Pick.
