The Minnesota Twins continue to keep pace in the American League Central and try and make it two in a row against the visiting Seattle Mariners. The Minnesota Twins got a solid effort from starter Scott Baker on Friday night and were able to hold on and get the win. Baker allowed seven hits and three earned runs to pick up his ninth win of the year and the fifth pitcher of the night for the Twins was the newly acquired Matt Capps who got his 27th save of the year pitching the ninth. Alexi Casilla hit his first home run and Jin Thome hit his 13th while Minnesota had eight hits total which they were able to convert into five runs. The win was the sixth in a row for Minnesota who trail the Chicago White Sox by one and a half runs in the AL Central. For Saturday's game the Twins start Kevin Slowey who snapped a string of no decisions last time out as he got the win. For the season Slowey has allowed 133 hits and 59 earned runs while striking out 79 in 11 and two-thirds innings of work. The Seattle Mariners were out of it early on Friday and never got back in. Doug Fister allowed five hits and five runs while striking out three in five innings of work to take his seventh loss of the season. Chone Figgins had three hits and Russell Branyan and Franklin Gutierrez had two hits each in the losing effort. The loss was the fifth in a row for the Mariners and seventh in their last 10 games as they are 22 games back in the AL West and 15-37 on the road this year. For Saturdays game Seattle sends Felix Hernandez out for the start. For the season Hernandez has allowed 138 hits and 51 earned runs while striking out 145 in 160 innings of work. Minnesota is 5-1 in their last six against a right-handed starter, 2-5 in their last seven game sas an underdog, 5-2 in Slowey's last seven starts against the AL West, and 9-4 in their last 13 starts against the AL West. Seattle is 15-40 in their last 55 riad games, 1-5 in their last six games against a right handed starter, 2-7 in Hernandez's last nine road starts, and 6-21 in their last 27 overall. Seattle is 3-9 in their last 12 games in Minnesota. This one os a tough call because Hernandez can take over a game and the chances of Slowey being able to go inning for inning with him if he's hot are very slim. I think Hernadez gets it done. Mitch's Pick: Seattle Mariners
