The San Francisco Giants go for the sweep against Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. The San Francisco Giants didn't make a big trade deadline move but they did get a trade deadline win and continue to lead the National League Wild Card race and are hot on the heels of the Padres for the lead in the NL West. Barry Zito allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out six in seven innings of work to not factor in the decision while Guillermo Mota went an inning and to thirds not allowing a hit and striking out three to get his first win of the year. Pat Burrell hit a two run eighth inning home run to give the Giants the lead an the win as they managed just five hits for the game. The win was San Francisco's eighth in their last 10 games and second in a row. For Sunday's series finale The Giants send Matt Cain to the mound as he has won his last two decisions. For the season Cain has allowed 116 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 106 in 143 and a third innings of work. The Los Angeles Dodgers were dealing all the way up to the trade deadline as they brought in Ted Lilly and Ryan Theriot from the Cubs. The help didn't come soon enough for Los Angeles as they dropped their second one run game in a row to the Giants. Chad Billingsley allowed just two hits without allowing a run while striking out five in six and two-thirds innings of work but Jonatham Broxton gave up the homer to Burrell for his fourth blown save and his and his third loss of the year. Casey Blake had homered earlier to get the Dodgers their lone run as they managed just three hits for the game. The loss was the fourth in a row for Los Angeles as the are now five and a half games out int he Wild Card race. The Dodgers look to avoid the sweep as they send Clayton Kershaw to the mound for the prime time start. Kershaw is coming off of a suspension and for the season he has allowed 104 hits and 43 earned runs while striking out 138 in 130 and two thirds innings of work. San Francisco is 6-1 in their last seven against a left handed starter, 6-1 in their last seven home games against a team with a winning record, 5-1 in Cain's last six home starts, and 20-7 in their last 27 overall. Los Angeles is 1-5 in their last six road games against a right handed starter, 1-8 in their last nine road games against a team with a winning record, 1-4 in Kershaw's last five starts against a team with a winning record, and 0-7 in their last seven as an underdog. San Francisco is 1-4 in Cain's last five home starts against LA. The Giants seem to have found some hitting and while they aren't getting big numbers on the board, they are getting timely hits and it is working for them. While I was a little surprised the Giants didn't make a big move for a bat, they have gotten some mileage out of Pat Burrell and most notably Buster Posey. I think the giants get the sweep. Mitch's Pick: San Francisco Giants
