Anthony Christodoulou and Scott Holtzman fight Saturday night at UFC Fight Night in Nashville.
Anthony Christodoulou enters this fight with a 12-5 record and has won 33 percent of his fights by knockout. Christodoulou has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a January loss to Mairbek Taisumov. Christodoulou is averaging 1.6 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 23.6 percent. Christodoulou is averaging zero takedowns with an accuracy percentage of zero percent. Christodoulou has to have redemption on his mind after looking flat out awful in his last match which resulted in a second round knockout. When in decent form, Christodoulou is a solid wrestler with an impressive ground-and-pound game that has led to four submission victories. However, that last performance makes it tough to completely trust Christodoulou.
USA TODAY Sports
Scott Holtzman enters this fight with a 7-0 record and has won three of his last four fights by decision. Holtzman has three career knockouts and is coming off a April 2014 victory against George Sheppard. Despite being 31 years old, Holtzman is still new to being a professional MMA fighter and is just now making his UFC debut. From what I’ve seen, Holtzman is an aggressive fighter with a striking style and some decent power that could catch his opponent by surprise. Holtzman hasn’t shown much when on the canvas, but he does have four career submission victories, three of which came as an amateur. Overall, however, Holtzman doesn’t have much out there to get a great feel for his style.
Even with Holtzman still somewhat of a mystery, we all saw what Christodoulou did in his last fight and it wasn’t pretty whatsoever. Sure, Taisumov is a solid fighter, but Christodoulou didn’t put up a fight at all. I can’t back him after that brutal performance.
So, Holtzman gets his first career UFC victory to his resume.
