Frankie Saenz and Sirwan Kakai square off Saturday night in Nashville during UFC Fight Night.
Frankie Saenz enters this fight with a 10-2 record and has won 50 percent of his fights by decision. Saenz has won six fights in a row and is coming off a February victory over Iuri Alcantara. Saenz is averaging 3.7 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 49.5 percent. Saenz is averaging four takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 61.5 percent. Saenz is still quite quick on his feet and athletic for a guy who will be 35 years old in four days after this fight. Saenz is a well balanced fighter who is comfortable on the canvas standing up or on the canvas, and he has heavy hands that could do some serious damage. Saenz is coming off the biggest win of his career, so it’ll be interesting to see how he responds as the favorite this time. This will be Saenz’s first career fight in Tennessee.

Sirwan Kakai enters this fight with a 13-2 record and is winning 46 percent of his fights by submission. Kakai has won his last three fights and is coming off a June victory over Danny Martinez. Kakai is averaging 3.47 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 35.6 percent. Kakai is averaging five takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 50 percent. Kakai is quite experienced for a guy who is still just 25 years old, and he’s an above-average defender, who is blocking nearly 68 percent of his strikes. Kakai is also a well rounded fighter who is comfortable in just about every situation and is dangerous on the canvas when he has position. Kakai’s main weakness has to be his wrestling, as he can be taken advantage of against more experienced fighters.
This could end up being an underrated fight between two guys who have surprised in their limited time in the UFC. Both are balanced fighters and should be confident based on their last bouts.
I think this fight could go either way, but if forced to pick, I think Saenz is the slightly more polished fighter and will come out on top.
