Jared Rosholt and Timothy Johnson square off Saturday in Nashville at UFC Fight Night.
Jared Rosholt enters this fight with a 12-2 record and is winning 50 percent of his fights by knockout. Rosholt has won eight of his last nine fights and is coming off a March win over Josh Copeland. Rosholt is averaging 2.45 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 51.8 percent. Rosholt is averaging 1.71 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 41.1 percent. Rosholt is more than capable of trading punches throughout a fight and has knockout power. However, Rosholt usually uses his wrestling game and takedowns as his safety net and seems more comfortable fighting and tiring his opponent on the canvas. Rosholt is also defending 100 percent of his takedowns. This will be Rosholt’s first fight in Tennessee.

Timothy Johnson enters this fight with a 9-1 record and is winning 67 percent of his fights by knockout. Johnson has won his last eight fights and is coming off a April win over Shamil Abdurakhimov. Johnson is averaging 4.44 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 37.2 percent. Johnson is averaging 3.03 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 50 percent. Many consider Johnson to be a work in progress, as his game is still a little raw and may not be pretty at times. But Johnson is coming off a big win over Abdurakhimov in which he was a big underdog. Johnson does land a lot of strikes throughout a fight, but he’s most effective in his grappling and when he gets his opponent on the canvas. This will be Johnson’s first time fighting in Tennessee.
This fight is interesting, as we have to start thinking different of Johnson after his last fight. Both fighters will likely focus on the takedown and will be jockeying for position until one of these guys gets tired and opens an opportunity.
And while Johnson is coming off possibly the biggest win of his career, Rosholt is simply the more polished fighter and can win in a variety of ways. I like Rosholt to get his 13th victory.
