Chris Kelades and Chris Beal fight Sunday night at the SaskTel Centre during UFC Fight Night.
Chris Kelades enters this fight with an 8-2 record and is winning 38 percent of his fights by submission. Kelades has split his last four fights and is coming off a February loss to Ray Borg. Kelades is averaging 1.93 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 55.6 percent. Kelades is averaging 1.07 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 33.3 percent. Kelades is a decent all-around fighter who is at his best when making the bout ugly and dragged out. Kelades is an accurate striker who can be dangerous when close and two of his last five wins have come by submission. However, Kelades is up there in age at 34 years old and stamina has been an issue in the past. This will be Kelades’ 10th fight in Canada, his home country.
USA TODAY Sports
Chris Beal enters this fight with a 10-1 record and has won 70 percent of his fights by decision. Beal has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a January loss to Neil Seery. Beal is averaging 2.8 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 33.5 percent. Beal is averaging 2.04 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 62.5 percent. Beal moves around the octagon well and relies on his speed when it comes to his striking. Beal lands a fair amount of shots but is also willing to take a strike in order to land one of his own. Beal has earned his reputation and has proven to be a tough out, but he must improve his grappling game if he hopes to take that next step in his career. This will be Beal’s first career fight in Canada.
Beal is simply the better overall fighter between the two and has quickly proven himself against OK competition in Tateki Matsuda and Seery. Kelades is up there in age and has shown that tends to wear down over the course of a fight.
Beal should be able to get the job done here.
