Maryna Moroz and Valerie Letourneau fight Sunday at the SaskTel Centre during UFC Fight Night.
Maryna Moroz enters this fight with a 6-0 record and has won 83 percent of her fights by submission. This will be Moroz’s sixth fight since 2014, and she’s coming off a April win over Joanne Calderwood. Moroz is averaging eight significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 37.5 percent. Moroz is averaging zero takedowns with an accuracy percentage of zero percent. Moroz is quickly climbing up the UFC ladder and is coming off a big upset where very few had her winning. Moroz is still raw in her technique, but she’s extremely athletic and deadly if the fight goes to the canvas. Moroz wastes no time ending a fight with an armbar and has won all but one of her fights that way. It’s hard to doubt Moroz now, but a lack of experience and a limited striking game are concerning at this stage of her young career.
USA TODAY Sports
Valerie Letourneau enters this fight with a 6-3 record and has won 57 percent of her fights by knockout. Letourneau has won her last three fights and is coming off a April win over Jessica Rakoczy. Letourneau is averaging 4.73 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 35.5 percent. Letourneau is averaging one takedown with an accuracy percentage of 50 percent. Letourneau is a pure striker and has a variety of punches and kicks she can throw at her opponent. Three of Letourneau’s last five wins have come by knockout and she has an impressive striking defensive percentage of 70 percent. Despite not being forced into a submission, Letourneau’s weakness would be her ground game, as she’s not a good wrestler and can struggle mightily on her back. This will be Letourneau’s 10th fight in Canada, her home country.
I’m not sure how anyone can bet against Moroz after what she showed in her last fight. This is also a similar matchup, as Letourneau i going to look to strike her way to victory, a game plan that also likely isn’t going to work.
I look for this fight to be the same as Moroz’s last fight. She gets the match on the canvas and eventually seals the win by submission.
