The Line: Dodson +400 / Johnson -500 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson fight Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Demetrious Johnson enters this fight with a 21-2-1 record and 43 percent of his fights by decision. Johnson has won his last eight fights and is coming off a April win over Kyoji Horiguchi. Johnson is averaging 3.46 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 53 percent. Johnson is averaging 3.74 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 55.5 percent. Johnson is possibly the most well-rounded fighter in the Flyweight division, as he can outstrike the best wrestlers and out grapple the best strikers. Johnson makes his opponent adjust to him and has recently developed a killer instinct with four of his last five fights failing to go the distance. This will be Johnson’s fifth time fighting in Las Vegas.
USA TODAY Sports
John Dodson enters this fight with a 18-6 record and has won 50 percent of his fights by knockout. Dodson has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a May win over Zach Makovsky. Dodson is averaging 3.26 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 35.4 percent. Dodson is averaging 1.12 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 40 percent. Dodson has a wrestling background but prefers for his striking game to do the talking, as four of his last six wins have been knockouts. Dodson is also defending 88.9 percent of takedowns. The concern for Dodson is that he has just two fights under his belt since 2013 and may be rushing back into this match for a chance at the belt. This will be Dodson’s third time fighting in Las Vegas.
This will be an interesting rematch from their fight two years ago, and Dodson has a shot considering he did knockdown Johnson a couple of times with his strikes. However, Johnson is just on a roll right now and knows how to take his opponents strengths away from them.
I look for Johnson to remain the UFC Flyweight Champion.
