Jan Blachowicz and Corey Anderson fight Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Jan Blachowicz enters this fight with a 18-4 record and has won 39 percent of his fights by submission. Blachowicz has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a April loss to Jimi Manuwa. Blachowicz is averaging 3.36 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 45.2 percent. Blachowicz is averaging zero takedowns with an accuracy percentage of zero percent. Blachowicz is most effective on his feet and has yet to prove himself on the canvas at the UFC level. Blachowicz is very quick on his feet but doesn’t land a ton of combinations, which can hurt him if a fight goes the distance. Blachowicz has never lost back-to-back fights, and this will be the first time he fights twice in a year since 2012. This will be Blachowicz’s first career fight in the United States.
USA TODAY Sports
Corey Anderson enters this fight with a 6-1 record and has won 50 percent of his fights by knockout. This will be Anderson’s second fight this year and he’s coming off a April loss to Gian Villante. Anderson is averaging 5.94 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 44.4 percent. Anderson is averaging 4.45 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 47.3 percent. Anderson is a physical fighter who has been super aggressive and successful with his takedowns. Anderson is also nearly defending an impressive 60 percent of his strikes. Anderson is a well balanced fighter who can still improve in areas but has a very bright future at just 25 years old. This will be Anderson’s third time fighting in Las Vegas.
I find this line somewhat surprising, as Anderson to me is the more polished fighter and has the advantage on the canvas. Anderson also has a little more UFC experience than Blachowicz and isn’t the one fighting in the States for the first time.
Look for Anderson to pull off the minor upset.
