Mizuto Hirota and Teruto Ishihara fight Saturday night at Saitama Super Arena during UFC Fight Night.

Mizuto Hirota enters this fight with a 17-7 record and has won 59 percent of his fights by knockout. Hirota has split his last six fights and is coming off a December win over Kyu Hwa Kim. Hirota is averaging 3.18 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 50.5 percent. Hirota is averaging 0.97 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 75 percent. Hirota is a very accurate and strong striker who has won his last two fights by knockout. Hirota does a nice job of landing combinations and knows how to jump on a fighter when he has the momentum in his favor. Hirota isn’t much of a grappler but is rarely caught out of position and has a strong takedown defense. This will be the 24th time Hirota fights in Japan, his home country.

USA TODAY Sports

Teruto Ishihara enters this fight with a 7-2 record and has won 86 percent of his fights by knockout. Ishihara has won three of his last four fights and is coming off a June victory over Jung Hwan Jo. I honestly haven’t seen much from Ishihara, and he’s obviously making his UFC debut with this bout. Ishihara has some serious knockout power, as five of his last six victories have come by knockout by punches. The concern with Ishihara is that he’s lost two of his biggest fights yet, which came against Yuta Sasaki and Michinori Tanaka. Other than that, Ishihara is still a bit of a mystery given the limited amount of film out there on him. Like Hirota, Ishihara will be comfortable fighting in his home country of Japan.

Overall, Hirota is far more experienced a polished for the UFC than the young Ishihara. Hirota is also in solid form as he’s bounced back from three straight losses with three straight victories.

I expect Pugnus to come away with the win.
