Anthony Johnson and Ryan Bader fight Saturday night in UFC on Fox at the Prudential Center.
Anthony Johnson enters this fight with a 20-5 record and is winning 70 percent of his fights by knockout. Johnson has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a September win over Jimi Manuwa. Johnson is averaging 3.21 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 46.3 percent. Johnson is averaging 2.52 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 60 percent. Johnson is a very dangerous striker who has won four of his last five bouts by knockout. It’s tough to beat Johnson on your feet, and he’s defending 46.3 percent of strikes. Johnson’s weakness is that he’s not a great wrestler and struggles on his back, as we saw in his loss to Daniel Cormier. This will be Johnson’s second fight in New Jersey.
USA TODAY Sports
Ryan Bader enters this fight with a 21-4 record and is winning 52 percent of his fights by decision. Bader has won his last five fights and is coming off a October win over Rashad Evans. Bader is averaging 2.62 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 40.4 percent. Bader is averaging 3.37 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 42.2 percent. Bader isn’t the accurate striker Johnson is, but he’s a far better wrestler and is averaging nearly three and a half takedowns a fight. Bader is also an impressive defensive fighter who is defending 72.5 percent of his strikes. The concern with Bader is that he doesn’t have the punching power to win this bout if he’s not able to get Johnson to the canvas. This will be Bader’s first fight in New Jersey.
Bader is on an impressive hot streak and could use a win here to take his career to the next level. However, Johnson is the better fighter and more experienced, as he’s looking for a possible title shot once Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones handle their business.
I look for Johnson to win this fight by knockout.
