USA TODAY Sports
Zach Makovsky enters this fight with a 19-6 record and has won 58 percent of his fights by decision. Makovsky has split his last four fights and is coming off a May loss to John Dodson. Makovsky is averaging 1.91 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 42.8 percent. Makovsky is averaging 3.6 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 32.1 percent. Makovsky has had his last eight fights end in a decision, and he’s not in great form after losing to Dodson and Jussier Formiga within the last two years. However, Makovsky does a nice job of defending his strikes and is an aggressive grappler who can be a tricky fighter once he gets his opponent on the canvas. This will be Makovsky third fight in Las Vegas.
As if Makovsky’s current form wasn’t enough to scare you away, Benavidez is simply the better fighter and should have little trouble bullying his way in this fight. Makovsky has lost against lesser talented fighters and isn’t accurate enough with his strikes to make a difference here.
Look for Benavidez to stay on his hot streak.
