Alex Garcia and Sean Strickland fight Sunday night at UFC Fight Night 83 in the Consol Energy Center.
Alex Garcia enters this fight with a 13-2 record and is winning 38 percent of his fights by knockout. Garcia has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a July win over Mike Swick. Garcia is averaging 2.17 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 34 percent. Garcia is averaging 52.5 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 69.5 percent. Garcia is a versatile fighter who is defending better than 65.1 percent of his strikes but is also a grappling artist. Garcia is excellent with his takedowns and has five submission victories under his belt. The concern with Garcia is that he isn’t an accurate striker and can struggle when he can’t get his opponent on the canvas. This will be Garcia’s fourth fight in the United States.

Sean Strickland enters this fight with a 16-1 record and has won 44 percent of his fights by knockout. Strickland has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a July win over Igor Araújo. Strickland is averaging 3.69 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 34.4 percent. Strickland is averaging 2.12 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 58.3 percent. Strickland is a fighter who is quickly on the comeup at just 24 years old, as he’s an elite defensive fighter defending 68.9 percent of his strikes. Strickland can beat you in a variety of ways and is also defending 75 percent of his takedowns. Strickland is a guy to keep a close eye on as he climbs up the UFC totem pole. This will be Strickland’s first fight in Pennsylvania.
This is going to be a very intriguing fight, especially for an undercard. Garcia will want this fight on the canvas and has the potential to finish Strickland if he isn’t careful. However, Strickland is the more polished fighter overall and has been far more consistent throughout his career.
I can’t bet against Strickland, especially with the low line.
