Igor Pokrajac and Jan Blachowicz fight Sunday in UFC Fight Night 86 at the Arena Zagreb.
Igor Pokrajac enters this fight with a 25-12 record and has won 56 percent of his fights by knockout. Pokrajac has split his last six fights and is coming off a October win over Zauri Maisuradze. Pokrajac is averaging 2.24 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 45.6 percent. Pokrajac is averaging 0.99 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 30.4 percent. Pokrajac has really turned things around in his last three fights after it looked like father time was catching up to him. When at the top of his game, Pokrajac is a powerful striker whose produced knockouts in four of his last six wins. However, Pokrajac is prone to getting knocked out and isn’t getting any younger at 37 years old. Pokrajac has fought majority of his career in Croatia.
USA TODAY Sports
Jan Blachowicz enters this fight with a 18-5 record and has won 39 percent of his fights by submission. Blachowicz has won six of his last eight fights and is coming off a September loss to Corey Anderson. Blachowicz is averaging 2.41 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 45.5 percent. Blachowicz is averaging 0.47 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 25 percent. Blachowicz is a controlled striker who throws a lot of punches from different angles and is impressive with his legs as well. Despite not having a submission win since 2011, Blachowicz is a polished wrestler who is comfortable on the canvas and capable of wearing down his opponent. The concern is that Blachowicz doesn’t exactly do anything spectacular to separate himself. This will be Blachowicz first fight in Croatia.
Neither of these fighters are that great, and they both have some flaws that would make you hesitant on backing either of them. However, Pokrajac is in better form entering this bout and is fighting in his backyard.
So, if forced to pick this fight I’d side with the hometown kid in Pokrajac.
