Maryna Moroz and Cristina Stanciu fight Sunday in UFC Fight Night 86 at the Arena Zagreb.
Maryna Moroz enters this fight with a 6-1 record and has won 83 percent of her fights by submission. Moroz has won five of her last six fights and is coming off a August loss to Valérie Létourneau. Moroz is averaging 4.06 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 34.7 percent. Moroz is averaging zero takedowns with an accuracy percentage of zero percent. Moroz has been busy working her way up the UFC rankings, as this will be her seventh fight since 2014. Moroz is extremely athletic and a nightmare if she’s able to fight on the canvas, which is her comfort zone. The concern with Moroz is that she’s not an accurate or powerful striker, putting her at a disadvantage at times. This will be Moroz’s first fight in Croatia.
USA TODAY Sports
Cristina Stanciu enters this fight with a 5-0 record and has won 60 percent of her fights by submission. This will be Stanciu’s fifth fight since 2015, and she’s coming off a December win over Renáta Cseh-Lantos. Stanciu makes her UFC debut here, as she’s beat up on a few OK fighters to get to this point. Stanciu is a powerful striker who can sometimes swing out of control. Stanciu likes to start fast and seems to be very confident in her offensive game that’s mainly striking at this point of her young career. The concern with Stanciu is that she still has a very raw ground game and cardio could be an issue with her aggressiveness right out of the gate. This will be Stanciu’s first fight outside of Romania.
This should be a hell of a fight between a hungry and aggressive Stanciu and a rising star in Moroz. You’re almost tempted to pick Stanciu in a upset due to her aggressiveness early and potential to end things quickly. However, Moroz has the experience factor and is far more polished in her wrestling and grappling.
I usually side with experience over people making their debuts, and this will be no different. Give me Moroz to get a bounce back victory.
