Khabib Nurmagomedov and Darrell Horcher fight late Saturday night on UFC on Fox 19 at the Amalie Arena.
Khabib Nurmagomedov enters this fight with a 22-0 record and has won 36 percent of his fights by decision. This will be Nurmagomedov’s first fight since 2014, and he’s coming off a win over Rafael dos Anjos. Nurmagomedov is averaging 2.63 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 40.9 percent. Nurmagomedov is averaging 7.09 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 48.6 percent. Nurmagomedov has been on a tear throughout his career but had to pull out of numerous fights the last two years due to injuries. When healthy, Nurmagomedov is a terrific takedown artist who wears down his opponent. Nurmagomedov is also defending more than 69 percent of strikes. However, we haven’t seen Nurmagomedov fight in two years. This will be Nurmagomedov’s second fight in Florida.
USA TODAY Sports
Darrell Horcher enters this fight with a 12-1 record and has won 50 percent of his fights by knockout. Horcher has won his last five fights and is coming off a October win over Stephen Regman. Horcher is making his UFC debut after making a name for himself in the Bellator and CFFC ranks, which includes a CFFC lightweight championship. Horcher is a striker at heart who is very aggressive and has won his last two fights by knockout. Horcher has a high school background in wrestling, but he still has a lot of room to grow in terms of grappling and overall defense. Still, Horcher is a threat due to his powerful strikes and ability to counter. This will be Horcher’s first fight in Florida.
Horcher is a decent fighter who could make some noise at some point at the UFC level. However, throwing the 28-year-old in the ring with Nurmagomedov for his debut isn’t fair. Nurmagomedov is one of the more polished grapplers in the business and has yet to lose a fight. It’s hard seeing a first timer who still has a lot to learn being the first to provide a loss.
Look for The Eagle to remain undefeated.
