Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovski fight Sunday at the Ahoy Rotterdam during UFC Fight Night 87.
Alistair Overeem enters this fight with a 40-14 record and has won 48 percent of his fights by knockout. Overeem has won four of his last five fights and is coming off a December win over Junior dos Santos. Overeem is averaging 3.81 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 60.2 percent. Overeem is averaging 1.63 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 65 percent. Overeem has been consistent as of late and is coming off a very convincing win his last bout to prove he hasn’t fallen off as he approaches 36 years old. Overeem is a very accurate striker who also defends nearly 65 percent of strikes. The concern is Overeem doesn’t have a great chin, as nine of his 14 losses have come by knockout. Overeem has fought a lot of his career in the Netherlands.
USA TODAY Sports
Andrei Arlovski enters this fight with a 25-11 record and has won 68 percent of his fights by knockout. Arlovski has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a January loss to Stipe Miocic. Arlovski is averaging 3.16 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 40.8 percent. Arlovski is averaging 0.35 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 40 percent. Arlovski looks to come off a brutal loss earlier in the year in hopes of getting back in the title conversation. Arlovski is also a striker at heart who throws powerful punches, and six of his last 10 wins have come by knockout. The concern with Arlovski is that he’s not as comfortable on the canvas as he should be at this stage of his career and can be worn out on the ground. This will be Arlovski’s first fight in the Netherlands.
Picking either one of these guys is good value considering both can end the fight with their powerful strikes. However, Overeem is the more balanced fighter, is in better form and will have the crowd behind him as he’s been a regular throughout his career.
I like Overeem to win his fourth straight fight and inch that much closer to a title.
