Abel Trujillo enters this fight with a 14-6 record and has won 50 percent of his fights by knockout. Trujillo has won four of his last five fights and is coming off a January win over Tony Sims. Trujillo is averaging 3.17 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 43.2 percent. Trujillo is averaging 2.41 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 52.6 percent. Trujillo enters this match with some nice momentum and fights for the third time since November. Trujillo remains one of the harder strikers in the lightweight division and tends to throw every punch with the hope it ends a fight. Trujillo is the definition of a brawler but also has a background in wrestling and has four career submission victories. This will be Trujillo’s fourth fight in Las Vegas.

Abel Trujillo vs. Jordan Rinaldi UFC Fight Night 88 Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction - 5/29/16

USA TODAY Sports

Jordan Rinaldi enters this fight with a 12-4 record and has won 58 percent of his fights by submission. Rinaldi has won his last five fights and is coming off a December win over Lashawn Alcocks. Rinaldi is replacing Carlos Diego Ferreira after anti-doping policy violation, and this will be his UFC debut. Rinaldi moves well around the octagon and is a capable striker who uses his range to his advantage. Rinaldi is more of a grappler and wrestler than anything, as seven of his wins have been submissions, and he seems to use his strikes to set up his takedowns. Rinaldi is clearly dangerous when he’s able to fight his fight. The concern with Rinaldi is that he hasn’t proven his striking game is that effective, making him a canvas fighter or bust at this point of his career.

I rarely pick newcomers against polished, experienced fighters who have been there done that. Unless they’re just a freak like a Cris Cyborg. Rinaldi has potential to make a name for himself at this level, but he’s overmatched against Trujillo, who will make him uncomfortable with his aggressive striking attack.

Trujillo wins this fight probably by knockout.
