Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha fight Friday night during The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk enters this fight with a 11-0 record and has won 55 percent of her fights by decision. This will be Jedrzejczyk’s fourth fight since 2015, and she’s coming off a November win over Valérie Létourneau. Jedrzejczyk is averaging 6.14 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 46.3 percent. Jedrzejczyk is averaging zero takedowns with an accuracy percentage of zero percent. Jedrzejczyk will be defending her belt for the third time since winning it a year ago against Carla Esparza. Jedrzejczyk is an aggressive and effective striker who uses her legs well and has produced knockouts in two of her last three fights. Jedrzejczyk also defends takedowns at a high percentage and makes her opponent fight her style. This will be Jedrzejczyk’s first fight in Las Vegas.
USA TODAY Sports
Claudia Gadelha enters this fight with a 13-1 record and has won 46 percent of her fights by submission. Gadelha has won five of her last six fights and is coming off a August win over Jessica Aguilar. Gadelha is averaging 4.62 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 43.1 percent. Gadelha is averaging 5.33 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 61.5 percent. Gadelha looked sharp in her last fight to earn a shot at the UFC Women's Strawweight title. Gadelha is most effective on the canvas, as she’s an aggressive takedown artist and has a strong rear naked choke. Five of Gadelha’s last seven fights have ended in decision and she hasn’t had a submission victory since her 2010 win over Kalindra Faria. This will be Gadelha’s first fight in Las Vegas.
This should be a fun fight, as this is obviously a rematch of their 2014 meeting that ended in a victory for Jedrzejczyk by split decision. This is the ultimate toss-up, as Jedrzejczyk may be the better striker but could have issues if this fight goes to the matt, where Gadelha has the clear advantage. I’ve actually been more impressed with Gadelha and think she has what it takes to get revenge here.
Look for Gadelha to give Jedrzejczyk her first career loss.
