Landon Vannata enters this fight with a 8-0 record and has won 50 percent of his fights by submission. This will be Vannata’s third fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a April win over Ramico Blackmon. Vannata looks to make a strong impression in his UFC debut, as he enters this fight with a subpar resume and his best victory would probably be against Chad Curry. Vannata specializes in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and has a background in wrestling. Vannata seems to be more of a striker at this point of his career, and he relies heavily on solid footwork and head movement. In order for Vannata to have a successful career at this level, he must improve in his grappling attack and become more comfortable on the canvas overall.
It’s not fair to expect Vannata to beat Ferguson in his UFC debut. We’re talking about one of the more consistent fighters in a loaded division. Ferguson should be able to school the rookie in every way possible.
Vannata has a chance to shine on this level, just not this soon against competition this good.
