Felice Herrig and Kailin Curran fight Saturday at the United Center on UFC on Fox 20.
Felice Herrig enters this fight with a 10-6 record and has won 60 percent of her fights by decision. Herrig has won five of her last seven fights and is coming off a April loss to Paige VanZant. Herrig is averaging 1.56 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 59 percent. Herrig is averaging 0.65 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 20 percent. Herrig will be fighting for the first time in over a year and is 1-1 in UFC. Herrig is a striker at heart with a strong kickboxing background and lands extremely accurate. Lil Bulldog is a scrappy fighter overall but has to improve her ground game if she’s going to take things to the next level on the UFC stage. This will be Herrig’s third fight in Chicago.
USA TODAY Sports
Kailin Curran enters this fight with a 4-2 record and has won 75 percent of her fights by decision. Curran has split her last four fights and is coming off a December win over Emily Kagan. Curran is averaging 3.68 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 45.1 percent. Curran is averaging 33.9 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 80 percent. Curran looks to build on her first UFC victory and has had plenty of time to prepare for this fight as well. Curran is a very balanced fighter who has proven she can hold her own in terms of striking, but she’s an aggressive takedown artist who grapples and wears down her opponent relentlessly. Curran seems to have a bright future in UFC at just 25 years old. This will be Curran’s first fight in Chicago.
This should be a fun fight between two women who we haven't seen much of lately. This matchup could go either way, but I give Curran the advantage due to her being more comfortable on the canvas and her ability to control a fight with her takedowns. Herrig may struggle to keep up with the younger and more aggressive Curran.
Look for Curran to win her second straight fight.
