Frankie Saenz and Eddie Wineland fight Saturday at the United Center on UFC on Fox 20.
Frankie Saenz enters this fight with a 11-3 record and has won 55 percent of his fights by decision. Saenz has won five of his last six fights and is coming off a December loss to Urijah Faber. Saenz is averaging 4.28 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 47.3 percent. Saenz is averaging 2.25 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 40.9 percent. Saenz has been rather consistent in his MMA career and looks to bounce back from his first UFC loss. Saenz has had his last four fights end in decision simply because he doesn’t do one thing extremely special. Saenz is an accurate striker and comfortable on the canvas but needs to be more aggressive if he hopes to get back in the win column. This will be Saenz’s first fight in Chicago.
USA TODAY Sports
Eddie Wineland enters this fight with a 21-11-1 record and has won 57 percent of his fights by knockout. Wineland has split his last 10 fights and is coming off a July loss to Bryan Caraway. Wineland is averaging 3.36 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 28.8 percent. Wineland is averaging 0.38 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 36.3 percent. Wineland is in must win mode after losing three of his last four fights and being knocked out twice during that span. Wineland has been knocked out three times in his 11 losses and hasn’t won a fight in over two years. Wineland clearly has knockout power himself and is a striker at heart, but he must figure out something here in order to get back in the win column. This will be Wineland’s fourth fight in Chicago.
I find it hard to pick Wineland in his current form, and his ground game will be at a disadvantage against a fighter such as Saenz. You have to like Saenz’s current form and his ability to grind fights out and take away his opponent's strength.
Give me Saenz to win this fight by decision.
