the Line -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

TV: FOX

Michel Prazeres and J.C. Cottrell fight Saturday at the United Center on UFC on Fox 20.

Michel Prazeres enters this fight with a 19-2 record and has won 53 percent of his fights by decision. Prazeres has won six of his last eight fights and is coming off a November win over Valmir Lazaro. Prazeres is averaging 1.83 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 43.4 percent. Prazeres is averaging 3.4 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 27.8 percent. Prazeres looks to continue what has been a consistent career in just his second fight in the United States. Prazeres has had his last six fights end in decision for better or worse, as he’s more of a takedown artist who likes to wear down his opponent and has eight submission victories. Prazeres is a smart fighter whose only losses were decisions. This will be Prazeres’ first fight in Chicago.

Michel Prazeres vs. J.C. Cottrell UFC on Fox 20 Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction - 7/23/16

USA TODAY Sports

J.C. Cottrell enters this fight with a 17-3 record and has won 65 percent of his fights by submission. Cottrell has won his last six fights and is coming off a June win over Cody Walker. Cottrell is making his UFC debut on short notice after Tony Martin pulled out due to a neck injury. Cottrell will be fighting for the second time in two months but has put in the work to certainly deserve this moment. At just 26 years old, Cottrell will be fighting for the seventh time since 2014, and he’s proven to be highly effective once he gets his opponent on the canvas. Cottrell isn’t much of a striker and doesn’t have a ton of power, but he’s efficient with his takedowns and has won four of his last fights by submission. Cottrell has been waiting for this moment and will be confident once entering the octagon.

Both fighters feel most comfortable on the canvas, so this could be who makes the first big mistake that determines the winner. I usually never pick somebody who is making their UFC debut, especially when going up against an experienced veteran. You have to like Prazeres in this fight given his experience, track record and the fact he’s going to get his style of fight.

Look for Prazeres to get his 20th career victory.
