Wilson Reis and Sean Santella fight Saturday night on UFC 201 at the Philips Arena.
Wilson Reis enters this fight with a 20-6 record and has won 55 percent of his fights by decision. Reis has won six of his last eight fights and is coming off a January win over Dustin Ortiz. Reis is averaging 2.13 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 37.1 percent. Reis is averaging 4.97 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 42.6 percent. Reis continues to be consistent and improved to 3-2 in the UFC with a victory earlier this year. Reis continues to be what he is, as he’s not a striker at ll and lacks any type of serious power. However, Reis is a terrific grappler and effective takedown artist who wears down his opponent and has produced three submission victories in his last six wins. This will be Reis’ first fight in Atlanta.
USA TODAY Sports
Sean Santella enters this fight with a 15-5-1 record and has won 67 percent of his fights by submission. Santella has won five of his last eight fights and is coming off a February win over Andrew Cseh. Santella will make his UFC debut and has had a solid career for the most part with wins in 10 of his last 14 fights overall. Santella is a black belt and a full-time jiu-jitsu instructor in New Jersey. From limited video, Santella is an athletic, jumpy fighter who moves around the octagon well and can go in extremely quick for a takedown. Santella also uses his legs very well for strikes and positions himself well when on the canvas. Santella has 10 submission victories under his belt and is very creative when he gets on the mat.
Santella is a very athletic fighter who has been working hard for this moment and is more than capable of making the best of it. Reis doesn’t have the power to scare Santella and will allow him to fight on the canvas, where he wants it. I see a potential upset here given what Santella is capable of on the mat.
Give me Santella to get a victory in his UFC debut.
