2015 Daytona 500: NASCAR Odds, Pick, Predictions, Dark Horses - 2/22/15

USA TODAY Sports

Tony Stewart - Tony Stewart will start from the back of the pack this weekend as he qualified for 29th place, which is just one spot above Danica Patrick. And while Stewart will have his work cut out for him if he hopes to win his first ever Daytona 500, he still has the experience advantage over just about every other racer in the field. Tony Stewart is the best active racer who has never won this event and has to be chomping at the bit to finally enter victory lane. Stewart has led 551 laps at Daytona International Speedway throughout his career, and every year I consider him a candidate to finally get the job done. While starting from the back of the pack won’t be easy, I’ll throw a little something on Tony Stewart with odds of +1600.

Sam Hornish Jr. - Sam Hornish Jr. is the driver to watch this season, as I promise you’ll make bank if you keep wagering on him throughout the season. Hornish doesn’t have much Sprint Cup experience under his belt, as he’s raced just 131 times in the last eight years. However, Hornish has picked up a truckload of experience racing in the Xfinity Series, and he has 57 Top 10 finishes in 107 career races in that department. Sam Hornish Jr. is a talented racer with a ton of upside at the young age of 35 years old. Bottom line, back Hornish as much as possible and start with odds of +7500 to win the Daytona 500.

Carl Edwards - Carl Edwards may be in for a breakout season now that he’s working with Joe Gibbs Racing. As for this race, Edwards will start in the sixth spot, which gives him a solid chance to win his first Daytona 500 race. Edwards has only led 12 laps throughout his career in this race but has produced more than 2,500 quality passes and has an average finish of 19.1. Carl Edwards needs to get off to a fast start if he hopes to have that bounce back season and his starting position gives him a shot to do just that. I’ll throw Edwards a bone with odds of +1400 on the table.

Jeff Gordon - It’s Jeff Gordon’s last season, he won the pole and you can still get him at odds of +1400 in some places. Do I really need to say more?
