The Pure Michigan 400 takes place this weekend at the Michigan International Speedway. This race has produced 26 different winners and Ford has produced 16 of those winners.
Here’s some drivers you may want to consider throwing on your card this week.
USA TODAY Sports
Paul Menard - Let’s start off with a big boy dark horse in Paul Menard, who you can get with odds of +6600. I was high on Menard heading into the season and thought he would have a victory at this point. Still, Menard has posted three straight top-15 finishes and has been lights out at the Pure Michigan 400 with back-to-back top-five finishes. Overall, Menard has finished no worse than ninth in his last three appearances on this track. With Menard’s history on this track and his current form, I’m back on the bandwagon here. I could see Menard getting his second career Sprint Cup victory this weekend and the odds just make the pick sweeter.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. - Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is one of the favorites this week who is actually worth the price with odds of +1300. Earnhardt has two top-five finishes in his last three appearances at the Pure Michigan 400, including a fifth-place finish last season. Earnhardt also finished second on this track earlier in the season at the Quicken Loans 400. He clearly likes something about this track and has consistently performed well. As far as his current form is concerned, Earnhardt has finished seventh or better in five of his last eight races. What’s not to like here? Dale Jr. is worth some serious cash this week if you’re capping this race.
Jeff Gordon - You can get Jeff Gordon, the defending champ at the Pure Michigan 400, with odds of +1900. This will be Gordon’s last career race at the Michigan International Speedway, so I’m sure he’ll love to go out with a bang. Gordon is a two-time champion at this particular track and has four top-10 finishes in his last eight races at the MIS overall. Yes, Gordon was horrible last week, but he does have four top-10 finishes in his last six races. Gordon’s odds this week pack a nice little punch.
Clint Bowyer - Possibly the best overall bet on the board this week will be Clint Bowyer with odds of +9500. The reason these odds are surprising is that Bowyer has posted top-10 finishes in his last nine races at the Michigan International Speedway, including a 10th spot at this year’s Quicken Loans 400. Overall, Bowyer has a top-10 finish in 11 appearances in Michigan. Yes, Bowyer hasn’t won a Sprint Cup race since 2012, has just one top-five finish this season and hasn’t won a pole since 2007. However, there’s no doubting Bowyer’s success in Michigan, making it impossible to ignore these odds.
Kevin Harvick - We’re getting a chance to make four times our money with Kevin Harvick this week. While it’s not crazy like some of these other drivers, we’re talking about a guy who won this race in 2010 and has been runner-up the last two seasons. In fact, Harvick has finished second in four of his last five races at the Michigan International Speedway. You can do a lot worse with your money than throwing some Harvick’s way.
