The Los Angeles Clippers are out to prove once again that they are the team to beat in the division, as the Clippers face off against the Lakers on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Lakers begin their season by hosting the Los Angeles Clippers. Sucks for them. The Lakers were bad last season, especially early on, and with the offseason shuffling…namely Howard heading to Houston, this season isn’t looking any brighter for L.A. The Lakers are used to dominating, but lately teams are rallying up against them, getting payback for all the beat downs Kobe and company administered to them. The Lakers already have issues to deal with, as Kobe is nursing an Achilles injury, and I am yet to be convinced that the Lakers have their replacement for Howard figured out.

The Los Angeles Clippers couldn’t have scheduled this better if they wanted to. The Clippers get to face off against the Lakers to open their season, and what better way to get things rolling, then a win against your rival. The Clippers finished last season in the top ten in scoring, and the top five in defense, and the Clippers not only return the heart of their roster from a season ago, but have improved adding the likes of J.J. Redick, who should have a big season for the Clippers, giving this offense an entirely new dimension. Defensively the Clippers should be outstanding once again, and adding Redick to this Roster with Griffin and Paul makes this team incredibly dangerous this season.
The total has gone over in six of the last seven games for the Clippers, and the total has gone over the number in all five of the last five meetings between the Clippers and the Lakers. Los Angeles is just 1-4 ATS in their last five games, and Los Angeles is just 2-4-1 against the spread in their last seven home games. The Lakers are also just 1-4 ATS against the Clippers.
I’m going to be making a play on the total in this spot. I feel this number is set way too high for a season opener. Especially considering how strong the Clippers are defensively. Redick should be huge for this team, but it may take him awhile to gel at full game speed, and the fact that Kobe could be limited will of course drive the scoring down as well. I’m taking the under in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
