In a surprise to many, Russell Westbrook made his season debut on Sunday night to guide the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 103-96 win over the Phoenix Suns in their home opener. Westbrook, who has been sidelined for the last six-months after tearing the lateral meniscus in his right knee during the second game of the NBA playoffs, gave the Thunder a much needed jolt after their thumping in Minnesota in their previous outing, scoring 21 points and dishing out seven assists while Kevin Durant had a game-high 33 points and 10 rebounds as OKC defeated Phoenix for the 11th straight time.
The Dallas Mavericks continued their strong start to the season with a dominating 123-104 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night to improve to 3-1 overall. Monta Ellis was the difference on Tuesday night as he had his way with Lakers, doing whatever he wanted on his way to 30 points on 11-14 shooting and dishing out nine assists in his best game as a Maverick thus far. Ellis has been instrumental in getting Dallas of to a quick start this season as he is averaging 23.3 points to go along with 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists through four games.
If I didn't already have a pick in the premium section, then this one would be it. Dallas has been great to start the season and I don't really care that they are on a back-to-back, it shouldn't really matter this early in the season. The Thunder on the other hand was belted in Minnesota and then they just got past a young Phoenix squad in their last outing. Westbrook is a huge plus obviously, but he is still working off rust and won't be back to his best for another couple of weeks. Dallas and the points all the way here...
