The Washington Wizards look for payback on Wednesday as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the surprising 76ers.
Head to head, the Wizards are 4-16-1 ATS in the last 21 meetings and 0-5 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Philadelphia while the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The 76ers 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games playing on 1 days rest, 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. After a stunning start to the season, the Philadelphia 76ers came crashing back down to earth on Monday night, falling to the visiting Golden State Warriors 110-90. The 76ers were the talk of the NBA after the first week of action as they raced out to a perfect 3-0 start, which included wins over the reigning champion Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls. Philadelphia had averaged 110 points on 51% shooting through those three games, however, they were kept to 35% shooting from the field against the Warriors and trailed by as many as 39 points at one stage. Despite the loss, it’s been a remarkable start to the season for a 76ers team that was predicted to finish with the worst overall record by publications everywhere in the offseason.
Meanwhile, the pressure it mounting on Randy Wittman and the Washington Wizards after their winless start to the season. Defense has been the down-fall to their 0-3 start as the Wizards are allowing an NBA-worst 51.2 opponent field-goal percentage and in their 103-93 loss at Miami on Sunday night, Washington allowed the Heat to shoot a shade under 53% from the field as they dominated the game from the get-go. Slow starts are becoming a theme for this Wizards team as they opened 0-8 in 2011-12 and a franchise-worst 0-12 last season.
I really like the Wizards in this spot. Yes they are 0-3, but two of those losses came on the road at Detroit (in their season opener) and at Miami (who were coming off back-to-back losses.) While they did lose to the 76ers at home last week, this is a great revenge spot for them. Not to mention, they are going to be desperate to get their first win of the season. Philly will be looking to bounce back after getting trounced by Golden State in their last outing, but I think Washington is the better team with a lot more to play for. This looks like the strongest play on the board today if you ask me...
