The San Antonio Spurs head to Utah on Friday in hopes of bringing the Jazz back down to earth after Utah’s first win on Wednesday.
The Utah Jazz are sitting at 1-8 this season, and are 1-3 overall at home on the season. Like I mentioned above, the Jazz finally got their first win of the season last time out, defeating the Pelicans 111-105 on Wednesday. The Jazz have the 30th ranked offense currently this season, averaging just 89.6 points per game on the year, while allowing 101.1 per game. Gordon Hayward is having a nice season for Utah despite the team’s lack of success. Hayward currently leads the Jazz offensively; scoring an average of 20.3 points per game, while also leading in assists and steals per game.

The San Antonio Spurs are once again among the NBA’s elite this season, as the Spurs are sitting at 8-1 on the year, and on the road the Spurs are 4-1 this season. San Antonio has the second ranked scoring defense this season, allowing just 90.1 points per game. The Spurs offense isn’t electric, but they are more than effective, ranking 15th in the league with an average of 99.4 points per game. In their last outing, the Spurs did what they were supposed to, and that’s beat up on a weaker team. The Spurs hosted the Wizards on Wednesday, and easily dispatched those 92-79.
The San Antonio Spurs are 5-4 against the spread this season, and on the road, the Spurs are 3-2 ATS. On Friday nights so far this season, the Spurs have struggled a bit, going 0-2 ATS. When playing against a team with a losing record this season, the Spurs are 3-0 ATS, and when the Spurs are playing against teams with poor defense, San Antonio is 2-0 against the number.
The Utah Jazz are just 2-6 against the spread on the season, and at home, the Jazz are 2-2 against the number. When the Jazz are going up against teams with a winning record this season, Utah is 0-1 ATS.
I think we are going to see a low scoring game here on Friday. The odds makers feel this way as well obviously, setting the number so low, but even then I think it’s a bit conservative. San Antonio obviously has one of the best defenses around. The Jazz got a nice win last time out, but I don’t see them scoring much, and the Spurs just plain won’t need to here.
