The Washington Wizards look for payback as they travel to Cleveland to face the Cavaliers on Wednesday night.
Head to head, the Wizards are 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings and 2-5 ATS in the last 7 meetings in Cleveland while the road team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the underdog is 15-6 ATS in the last 21 meetings. The Cavaliers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 3 or more days rest, but just 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 games overall and 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 home games. The 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600, 4-10 ATS in their last 14 road games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 0 days rest.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are just a mess offensively to start the season. Granted, they have a new coach in Mike Brown and several new faces, but no one expected them to be this bad straight out of the gate. Coming into tonight's rematch with the Washington Wizards, a team that beat last Saturday night 103-96 in overtime, Cleveland are averaging a paltry 92.5 points per games and dishing out just 18.7 assists, which both rank in the bottom five in the NBA. If you take away their overtime wins at Washington and against Philadelphia, the Cavaliers have scored over 95 points just twice this season, which is a remarkably low number with all the offensive talent this teams has. It also hasn't helped that Kyrie Irving hasn't been able to get anything going in the early stages, shooting just 39% on the season, but did score a career-high 41 points in their last outing over the Wizards.
The Washington Wizards are an up and down bunch when it comes to their scoring, but they are clearly better at home than on the road, where they have been held to 79 and 95 points in their last two outings away from home. In their showdown with the Cavaliers late last week, the Wizards shot just 39 percent and finished with 90 points at the end of regulation. Trevor Ariza and Al Harrington have also been missing for the last couple of games, which hasn't helped their offense either.
Cleveland has has three days to work on their offensive issues, but it's one thing doing it in practice and another doing it real games. Here we have two very shaky offensive teams that can go through patches of no scoring for a couple of minutes, which leads me to my pick for tonight's game, which will be the under.
I'm not crazy about betting unders in general, but you have to take the value where it lies. Barring another overtime game, I like our chances of another low scoring meeting between these two. Here are a few more recent against the spread stats: The Under is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings, 5-1 in Cavaliers last 6 home games and 23-9 in the last 32 meetings in Cleveland...
Dan’s Pick: Under 192.5
