The Detroit Pistons look to turn things around as they host the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon basketball from the Palace.
Head to head, the Grizzlies are 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings and 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Detroit while the road team is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings and the favorite is 8-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings. The Pistons are 7-23-1 ATS in their last 31 vs. Western Conference, 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Grizzlies on the other hand are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400, 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
What's going on with the Detroit Pistons lately? After impressive road wins in Indiana and Boston just before the Christmas break, Detroit has gone on to lose five of their next six games and now find themselves five games below .500 as we head into the New Year. What's more disturbing, the Pistons have only played one team in the stretch that has a winning record. It's not hard to see where they have been falling down as they have been one of the worst defensive teams in the league of late as they have given up at least 106 points in six of their last eight contests.
The Memphis Grizzlies come into tonight's game off a tough 111-108 loss in Denver on Friday night, however, they have been playing better recently as they have won four of their last seven overall. The Grizzlies are not really known for their free flowing offense, yet, they have been putting up some impressive numbers by their standards, averaging 101 points over their last seven games, which also includes a 120 outburst against the Denver Nuggets last week. When was the last time you saw Memphis pour in 120 big ones?
As far as picking a side goes, I would try and stay away from any games that involve the Detroit Pistons because you just don't know what to expect from them on a night to night basis. They have had a long break and you would have to think that things are going to turn around soon, but the Grizz have been pretty frisky lately, especially on the road.
Given that the Pistons can't stop anyone from scoring and the fact the Memphis is in a nice groove on the offensive side of the ball lately, the over has to be the play here. It also helps that the over has hit in 13 of Detroit's 17 home games and 24 of 33 overall this season. As far as the Grizz are concerned, the over has been a winner in four of their last six.
