The Indiana Pacers hit the road to face the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night.
Head to head, the Pacers are 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Atlanta while the home team is 22-8 ATS in the last 30 meetings and the favorite is 21-6 ATS in the last 27 meetings. The Hawks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games, but just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600 and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Pacers on the other hand are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 road games and 35-17 ATS in their last 52 games overall, but just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest.
While the Atlanta Hawks could very well still finish in the top four in the East this season without big man Al Horford, they are going to have their hands full tonight with the league-leading Indiana Pacers. Following their 86-79 victory over the surging Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night, the Pacers improved to a league-best 17-1 at home and 28-6 overall. More importantly, Indiana has also been one on of the premier against the spread teams in the NBA as they have covered in 12 of 18 at home and 11 of 16 on the road.
Although they have been competitive, the Atlanta Hawks come into tonight's game having dropped three straight and four of five overall as they adjust to life with All-Star Al Horford. After suffering a buzzer-beating loss to the Golden State Warriors at home last Friday, the Hawks suffered consecutive road losses in Chicago and Brooklyn, despite hanging in their until the final minute. I kind of think this is what Atlanta is going to be the rest of the season with Horford. They are still going to win their fair share of home games, but I think they will struggle on the road and against the better teams in the league, while still being competitive.
Who's going against the Indiana Pacers here? I know the Hawks are really tough at home, but they are facing the league's best team in Indiana tonight. Granted, they are coming off a semi-tough game against the Raptors last night, but that isn't going to stop me from taking the Pacers, who happen to be one of the top three teams at covering the spread away from home...
