The Los Angeles Clippers return home to face John Wall and the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.
Head to head, the road team is 6-2-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings. The Clippers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games playing on 1 days rest, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Wizards on the other hand are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games, but just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
I don't like this spot for either team and i'll explain why. As far as the Los Angeles Clippers are concerned, yes they have been playing great since Chris Paul went down, but this is their first game back from a seven-game Eastern Conference road trip, a spot that never fares well for the home team. Not only that, but they just finished up in Milwaukee on Monday night, so it's not like they have had a couple of nights to rest and prepare for this game. We could also see some fatigue from the Washington Wizards, a team coming off a big win in Golden State last night and playing their four straight road game in five nights. If you looking at backing Washington here, you would of almost preffered that they lose against the Warriors on Tuesday night, so they would have been a little more fired up to get the win tonight.
Los Angeles ended up going an impressive 5-2 on their East Coast swing, which now makes it 9-3 since Paul went down at the start of the new year. The Clippers have actually improved their offense since the All-Star point guard was injured and they have scored 109 or more in nine of those contests. While the Wizards have alternated wins and losses in their last seven games, they were just victorious in Phoenix and Golden State and have covered the spread in 10 of their last 13 away from home.
I don't really trust this Washington team at all, especially coming off what is probably their biggest road win of the season to date. If this was the Clippers second of third game back from their road trip, then I would take them and actually feel pretty strong about it. However, team always struggle in their first back back from a long trip and that's a fact....
