The ice cold Cleveland Cavaliers will play the red hot New York Knicks Thursday night in Madison Square Garden. Cleveland has lost four of its last five and New York has won three in a row and is finally starting to play to its potential.
Cleveland continues to struggle from the field, shooting just 40.2 percent in its last five games and averaging just 96.1 points per game. There’s little scoring consistency besides point guard Kyrie Irving, as it tends to be a different player who helps out each night. Unfortunately, that’s not going to cut it against the more consistent scoring teams in the league.

Take New York for example, a team that has scored over 100 points in four straight games. In the Knicks last five games, they’re averaging 107 points per game, shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 44.3 percent from downtown. Granted, their last three wins came against mediocre competition, but this team has really began to turn the corner ever since Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton have returned from injury.
Cleveland is just 1-4 against the spread in its last five games and New York is 7-1 against the spread in its last eight games following an against the spread victory. It’s a team that’s playing fairly good basketball and is hotter than ever offensively. That doesn’t bode well against a team that can’t find its offensive rhythm and is 5-17 SU on the road this season.
New York is still fighting for playoff position and needs to keep winning these type of games in order to qualify.
Take the Knicks and the medium sized chalk.
