Atlanta Hawks vs. Indiana Pacers - 2/4/14

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

There’s no doubt that the public will be all over the Indiana Pacers in this one, but if you stepped back and really looked at things closely, you could make a serious case for the Atlanta Hawks here. For one, the Hawks have already defeated the Pacers this season 97-87 in Atlanta, which is their lone meeting so far. Granted, Lance Stephenson was injured for that game, but on the flipside, Paul Millsap was held to just four total points on 1-10 shooting. If you had told me that Millsap would score just four points and that they would beat the Pacers by double-digits, I would of said you were crazy.

Atlanta is also 16-6 at home this season and they have beaten some of the premier teams in the NBA there. Just look at their last five games at Philips Arena, which go like this: Indiana = Win, Houston = Win, Miami = Win, San Antonio = Loss and Minnesota = Win. Look at those last four wins at home, super impressive. Indiana on the other hand is just 2-6  against the spread in their last eight road games and they are 0-4 against the spread in the second game of a back-to-back, which is what they are up against tonight after they easily accounted for the visiting Orlando Magic last night.

I’ve never been scared to take the team that nobody wants too, which will probably be the case tonight. Having said that, I just don’t see the Hawks beating the Pacers twice in a row, granted, the Phoenix Suns just accomplished this feat in the space of just two weeks. My advice would be to stay away because this one could go either way, I mean just look at who Atlanta has beaten at home recently. If you must, wait until game time to see where the line goes. Everyone will be pounding the Pacers, so if the line goes in their favor then you have every right to take them. If the line goes the other way while everyone is betting on Indiana, I would take the home team Hawks...
