The Line: Boston Celtics -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Dallas Mavericks head to Boston to take on the Celtics on Sunday night.
Head to head, the Mavericks are 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings and 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings in Boston while the road team is 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings and the underdog is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings. The Celtics are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, but just 9-20-1 ATS in their last 30 vs. NBA Southwest and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest. The Mavericks on the other hand are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400, 38-14 ATS in their last 52 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
I'm always cautious about going against the Dallas Mavericks on the road and rightly so because they have covered the spread in 38 of their last 52 games away from home, which is easily the best mark in the NBA over that time period. On the season, the Mavs are 17-8 against the spread on the road, which again, makes them one of the premier teams in that respect. Having said that, they will be tested tonight because they will be without their second-leading scorer and top assist man in Monta Ellis who suffered a hamstring injury in Friday night's blowout win over the Utah Jazz.
While you would automatically have to lean towards Dallas here because of their awesome against the spread record, things won't be easy against a Boston Celtics squad that is currently riding a three-game winning streak. Although all three wins have come against current lottery teams, Boston has still covered the spread in all three games. On the injury front, Avery Bradley is expected to miss tonight's game while Rajon Rondo is thought to be playing even though he is suffering some soreness in his right knee.
