For the first time this season the San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons will play one another.
Despite the Pistons winning two straight, it will be their first game without head coach Maurice Cheeks, who was fired Sunday afternoon. They have really underachieved this season with a 21-29 record but have won three of their last five games. During that stretch they’re averaging 108.8 points and shooting 46.8 percent from the field. Defensively, they’re allowing 102.8 points on 44.1 percent shooting during that time. They are 22-27-1 against the spread this season and 11-15 ATS at home.

The Spurs are still banged up more than ever, but they’ve still managed to win four of their last five games. They’re still averaging 103 points per game in their last five, but the three point shooting has dropped to 31.8 percent. Defensively they have allowed opponents to top 100 points in three straight games. They are 24-27 against the spread and 14-11 ATS on the road.
This is an interesting line given the circumstances. It’s nearly impossible to correctly predict how Detroit is going to come out given the fact its coach was just fired. It could either make things worse or motivate the Pistons to play better. However, the Spurs are still a hobbled basketball team and will be playing their fifth straight road game.
The Pistons are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games and the home team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven game between these two teams.
I’m going out on a limb and say that the firing of Cheeks will bring Detroit closer together and produce some inspired basketball. After all, it is a team that is starting to play well with two straight wins.
Detroit has won four straight home games SU and should continue to play well in front of its home fans.
