The Miami Heat will play their third game of a five-game road trip Tuesday night when they take on the Phoenix Suns. It’s the second game of a two-game series, as the Heat won the first meeting 107-92 back in November.
Miami is coming off one of its most surprising losses of the season when it was tripped up Saturday against the Utah Jazz. In the 94-89 loss, the Heat shot just 43.3 percent from the field and 30.4 percent downtown, while the Jazz knocked down 48.6 percent of their shots and made 10 threes. Still, the Heat are shooting 49.5 percent from the field in their last five games, but are allowing 101 points defensively. Miami is 21-28 against the spread this season and 13-12 ATS on the road.

Phoenix has won six of its last eight games, which includes a 122-109 Saturday win over the Golden State Warriors. The Suns shot a lights out 53.8 percent from the field and knocked down 11 of 21 three-point attempts. They are now shooting 45.9 percent on the season and averaging more than 105 points per game. Defensively, they’re near the bottom of the NBA with an average of 101.8 points per game allowed. Against the spread the Suns are 33-16-1 and 15-9-1 ATS at home.
This is a tough game to cap considering the Suns have been covering machines all season, but the Heat are the better team, it just comes down to when they want to show up. While it would be nice to take the hot shooting team and the points at home, the Heat have absolutely dominated this series, winning seven straight meetings. The Suns haven’t beaten Miami since November of 2009.
The Heat are also 5-0 ATS in their last five games in Phoenix and are 6-1 ATS in their last seven meetings vs. the Suns. Add that to the fact they just loss to a horrible team, you should get an honest effort from the defending champs.
I’ll take the chalk.
