The Portland Trail Blazers and Oklahoma City Thunder collide on Tuesday night in prime time NBA action.
Head to head, the Thunder are 7-2-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings and 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Portland, while the favorite is 16-5-1 ATS in the last 22 meetings. The Trail Blazers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 vs. NBA Northwest, but just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games playing on 2 days rest. The Thunder on the other hand are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600, 20-7 ATS in their last 27 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall.
As I've said plenty of times this season, the Portland Trail Blazers are my team. Until the Charlotte Bobcats officially change their name back to the Hornets next season, the Blazers are it. Having said that, I will be going against them tonight for two main reasons:
1: Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder are flat out rolling at the moment. While they did fall in Orlando recently in a very odd ending, the Thunder have still won 13 of their past 15 as Kevin Durant continues to stamp himself as the MVP of this league. OKC has also been lights out when it comes to covering the spread away from home, especially against good competition as they are a perfect 7-0 in their last seven road games against teams with a home winning percentage of more than .600 (teams like San Antonio, Miami, Indiana) and they are 20-7 in their last 27 road games against teams with a home winning record. Pretty impressive stuff.
2: This will be the first home game for the Blazers after a four-game road trip, a spot that never really ends well for the home team, against the spread anyway. While this isn't one of those massive seven-game road trips, they played some pretty big games in New York and Indiana amongst others. I know I always go against the home team coming off a long road trip, but I’m justified to do so because more times than not, it takes them at least a game to adjust being back at home amongst their normal surroundings.
I wouldn’t bet on this game personally because I think this one could easily go either way, but I can’t look past how good KD and the Thunder has been on the road lately and the fact that this is Portlands first game back from a road trip...
