The Dallas Mavericks and Philadelphia 79ers will play their second and final meeting this season on Friday night. Dallas won the first game 97-94 back in November.
The Mavericks have won five of their last seven games, but are coming off an emotional loss to the Miami Heat. In the 117-106 loss, they allowed the Heat to shoot 57.1 percent from the field and knock down 10 threes. However, despite that one poor defensive performance, they’re still holding teams to 95.2 points on 43.8 percent shooting in their last five games. On the road, they average 100.5 points and give up 100.9 points. They are 31-24 ATS overall and 19-9 ATS on the road.

It’s the same story, just a different game for the 76ers, as they’ve now lost nine straight. Clearly chasing that No. 1 overall pick, they’re averaging just 88.2 points and allowing 115.4 points in their last five games. They’ve allowed well over 100 points in nine straight games. It’s a team that’s mailed it in on both ends of the floor and can’t wait for the season to end. They are 21-34 ATS overall and 7-20 ATS at home.
Even though the Mavs should win this game fairly easily, I’m simply not comfortable laying the huge number on the road. That’s why I’ll side with the over. Sure, Dallas should be able to score at will, but I’m not sure the 76ers have enough offensive firepower to put up their fair share of points against an improved Mavs defense.
The under is 4-1 in Philadelphia’s last five games and is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings between these two teams.
The 76ers have failed to score more than 85 points in three of their last five games.
Give me the under in this one-sided matchup.
