The Detroit Pistons square off against the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night from the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Head to head, the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Pistons are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win, but just 10-28-1 ATS in their last 39 vs. Western Conference. The Mavericks are 39-15 ATS in their last 54 road games, 35-16 ATS in their last 51 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 43-21-2 ATS in their last 66 games following a SU win of more than 10 points.
Given that the Dallas Mavericks have covered the spread in 39 of their last 54 road games, it's pretty hard to look past them tonight. However, the Detroit Pistons are capable of taking down the elite teams in the NBA and it wasn't long ago that they won three straight games against Brooklyn, Denver and San Antonio by an average of 13 points per contest. The Mavericks have also defeated the Pistons in their last four meetings and nine of 10 overall. While I would lean with Dallas here, I'm going to take a total instead.
It's no surprise that the over has dominated in Pistons games this season. They have scored a lot of points but they have given up more, allowing opponents to score an average of 103 points per game. Heck, Detroit just let the Charlotte Bobcats put up 108 and 116 points in their recent home-and-home series, losing both games by a combined 30 points by the way. The over is 43-16 in their 59 matches so far this season and it's also 24-8 in their last 32 at the Palace. The Mavs had two low scoring outputs recently at Charlotte and Indiana, but if you take those two games away, they have averaged 111 points over their last 11 contests and are coming off 124-point outing in Philadelphia last night.
I just don't see how this is a low scoring game. In their first meeting of the season just over a month ago in Dallas, the game finished on 222 total points and the line was exactly the same at tonight's game at 213. The Pistons are one of the worst defensive teams in the entire league and the Mavs should have no problems scoring tonight. Dallas has also given up at least 112 points in three of their last four games...
Dan’s Pick: Over 213
