NBA Player Updates 2/22: Deng, Lopez, Tonight's TV Schedule and More
February 22, 2014
After a busy evening last night, the NBA will be going strong once again today, with eight matchups on the schedule. While we’re waiting on those games to get moving, let’s take our daily look around the league and see who’s making headlines out there. Here’s the latest.
Victor Oladipo, SG, Orlando Magic: The Magic were the latest low-end team to take advantage of the hapless Knicks’ struggles, and Oladipo led the way in this one. He had an incredible game, putting up 30 points in his team’s 129-121 double-overtime victory yesterday. Oladipo just missed out on a triple-double with 14 assists and nine rebounds in the come-from-behind win.
Life hasn’t been easy for the Magic this season. That win makes them just 17-40. We’ll see if they can carry their momentum into the upcoming four-game trip, starting tomorrow in Toronto.

Dirk Nowitzki, PF, Dallas Mavericks: The Mavericks overcame some solid offensive performances against the 76ers last night, and as usual they have Nowitzki to thank. He led the way for Dallas with 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting in the 124-112 win, adding seven rebounds, four assists and a block for good measure.
The Mavericks have won two of their last three games and stand at 33-23 on the year so far. Their three-game trip continues tonight in Detroit.
Luol Deng, SG, Cleveland Cavaliers: The Cavaliers are probably glad they kept Deng on the roster past the trade deadline, as he delivered a nice outing last night against Toronto. He put up 21 points and 11 rebounds, but couldn’t get the Cavs over the hump in the 91-98 loss. That’s Deng’s third consecutive double-digit scoring outing.
That unfortunate defeat stops a six-game win streak that Cleveland had going, dropping them to 22-34 on the year. Next up is the first of two home games tomorrow night against the Wizards.
Robin Lopez, C, Portland Trail Blazers: Lopez was working the boards like a man on a mission last night against the Jazz. He pulled down a season-high 18 rebounds in the Blazers’ 102-94 win, adding 12 points to complete the double-double. Lopez now has four double-doubles in just the last six games.
The win stops a three-game losing skid and puts Portland at 37-18 on the year. Up next for the Blazers is a home game tomorrow against Minnesota.
NBA Daily Schedule: 16 teams will be in action around the league in the coming hours, so it should be a pretty good day for basketball. Here’s a look at the complete schedule, along with the start times and TV networks carrying each game.
