The Los Angeles Lakers will begin a short two-game road trip when they pay the Indiana Pacers a visit. These teams played about a month ago and the Pacers won 104-92.
The Lakers remain one of the biggest embarrassments in the NBA, as they’re 3-6 in the month of February. They’ve allowed 100 or more points in 19 of their last 23 games and aren’t getting much help from the offense. In their last five contests, they’re averaging 98.6 points on 47 percent shooting. However, the return of Pau Gasol and Nick Young should help moving forward. They average 100.6 points and allow 107.9 points on the road. They’re also 29-26-1 ATS overall and 16-13 ATS on the road.

The Pacers have split their last six games and haven’t won back-to-back matchups since early February. During this inconsistent stretch, they’re averaging 100.2 points on 44.6 percent shooting and allowing 92.6 points on 40.9 percent shooting. Paul George has suddenly found his rhythm, scoring 26 or more points in his last three starts. The Pacers average 99.8 points and allow 85.9 points on their home court. They are 32-22-1 ATS overall and 18-10-1 ATS at home.
The spread is a little too steep for my taste considering the way the Pacers have been playing uninspired basketball as of late. The Lakers should also improve with guys returning from injury, especially if Steve Nash can go.
That’s why I’m looking at the spread and really liking the over. Anybody can score on the Lakers, and Los Angeles should be able to do its fair of scoring in garbage minutes.
The over has hit in eight of the last 10 Laker road games and is 5-0 in the last five meetings that have taken place in Indiana.
Hitting 200 or so combined points shouldn’t be an issue.
