NBA Injury Updates 3/24: Howard, Chandler and More
March 24, 2014
We’ll be seeing quite a bit of action out on the NBA courts tonight, so this seems like a good time to check out some of the injury concerns around the league. We’ve got our usual mix of notable players and mixed prognoses this morning, so let’s see if we can figure out what’s in these players’ futures.
Xavier Henry, SF, Los Angeles Lakers: Today will be a big day for Henry, though with the season winding down and the Lakers light years away from contention it’s not as big as it potentially could be. He’ll see a hand specialist today to determine the extent of his wrist damage. After an MRI this weekend, it was revealed that he had a torn ligament, and after the doctor visit we’ll know how long he’ll be sidelined.
Shutting down Henry for the season is a distinct possibility, as there’s not a whole lot of basketball left. He’s missed 28 games thus far thanks to wrist/knee injuries.

Kyle Korver, SG/SF, Atlanta Hawks: Korver has been out for two straight games, and the Hawks have lost both. Coincidence? Probably, but we can’t underestimate his value to the team, either. He’s been experiencing back spasms, but as of yet the team hasn’t given an definitive timetable on when we can expect him back.
Korver’s next opportunity to return to the lineup would be tonight against Phoenix, which is at home in Atlanta. We’ll likely see an update on his status in the coming hours.
Dwight Howard, PF/C, Houston Rockets: Let’s move on to another big man who’s been out with injury in Howard. He’s missed the Rockets’ last three games thanks to what’s being called a “mild left ankle strain.” That said, he’s been participating in practice and visually doesn’t look all that different.
Still, this is likely a case of the Rockets being overly cautious with Howard--which is understandable--so don’t expect them to force anything. We’ll call him questionable for tonight in Charlotte, though, and we’ll know more after today’s shoot-around.
LaMarcus Aldridge, PF, Portland Trail Blazers: It’s been a while since we’ve seen Aldridge, so let’s check in and see how he’s doing. Thus far, he’s missed five games due to a back contusion (most recently on Saturday in Charlotte), but the good news is that he’s traveling with the team on their current road trip.
We thought we were going to have to wait until a little closer to game-time to see if Aldridge could return tonight in Miami, but he’s already been ruled out. The Blazers have a pretty draining four-games-in-five-days road set ahead, so the team will definitely want to take things easy with their star.
Wilson Chandler, SG/SF, Denver Nuggets: Here’s the scoop on Chandler: He missed out on another game yesterday due to a groin strain, just one game after returning from a hip injury.
The Nuggets play again tonight in a quick turnaround, so we’re not too optimistic about Chandlers’ chances of returning to the lineup. What’s worse, they’re on the road (in San Antonio), so he won’t have much time to rehab. Anthony Randolph may get the start again.
