The New York Knicks travel to the Staples Center tonight to battle the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Knicks have been doing everything they can to sneak into the playoffs, but they hit a major snag on Sunday when they lost to the shorthanded Cavaliers by 106-100. Carmelo Anthony led the way with 32 points while JR Smith added 18, but the defense just wasn't there as the Cavs were allowed to shoot a ridiculous 60.9 percent from the field, all without the services of their leading scorer in Kyrie Irving. Jarrett Jack stepped into the starting lineup and the Knicks just didn't have an answer for him as he poured in a season-high 31 points on 13 of 19 shooting. The worst part of the loss was that the Knicks were actually dominated the first half and thought that they could cruise to victory after leading by 61-46 at the break, but it looked like they relaxed and made the mistake of thinking the game was already won. With the loss, New York stay three games clear of the eighth spot in the East.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have lost seven of their last nine games but were able to snap a four-game skid on Sunday by beating the Magic by 103-94. In typical fashion, Nick Young made a variety of tough shots and danced his way to 26 points off the bench but it was actually Jordan Hill who led the team in scoring with a career-high 28 points and 13 rebounds, dominating Orlando's front line in the paint and scoring on a cariety of post moves. Pau Gasol played just 19 minutes because he was apparently battling flu-like symptoms so he sat out the second half as the Lakers led almost from start to finish.
In ATS trends, the Knicks are 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games following an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a loss, while the Lakers are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win and 1- 4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the Home team is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings but the Favorite is 7-1 ATS in the last eight.
The Knicks are a big favorite here and as bad as the Lakers have been I am going to take the home dog against the team taking the cross country road trip.
