The Portland Trailblazers and the Memphis Grizzlies face off on Sunday in Portland in a NBA Western Conference matchup with huge playoff implications.
The Portland Trailblazers were sputtering a few weeks back but they appeared to have regrouped as they make their final push for the post season. The Trailblazers have won their last two games and are 5-5 in their last 10 as they return home from a five game road trip. LaMarcus Alridge leads Portland averaging 23.1 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. Damian Lillard is averaging 21 points and 5.5 assists, Wesley Mathews is averaging 16.4 points, and Nicolas Batum is averaging 13 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. The Blazers are averaging 106.6 points and they are shooting 44.7 percent including 37.2 percent from beyond the three-point line while defensively Portland is allowing 102.6 points and their opponents are shooting 45.2 percent. The Trailblazers are 26-9 at home this season and have no success against Memphis in recent meetings.

The Memphis Grizzlies occupy the final playoff spot in the Western Conference but it is a hotly contested spot and their fate is still very much uncertain. The Grizzlies are a half of a game ahead of Dallas and a half of a game behind Phoenix in the standings as the fifth through ninth place teams in the West playoff standings in the NBA are all bunched up. Zach Randolph leads Memphis averaging 17.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Mike Conley is averaging 17.3 points and 6.0 assists, Marc Gasol is averaging 13.9 points and 6.9 rebounds, and Courtney Lee is averaging 11.3 points. The Grizzlies are averaging 95.6 points and they are shooting 46.3 percent including 35.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc while defensively they are allowing 94 points and their opponents are shooting 44.6 percent. Memphis is 20-15 on the road this season.
Portland is 5-2 against the spread playing on one days rest, 2-6 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, and 1-4 against the spread following a road trip of seven or more days. Memphis is 4-0 against the spread following a loss, 11-3-1 against the spread against a team with a winning percentage higher than .600, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six road games. The road team has covered the point spread in six of the last seven meetings of these two.
The Grizz have had no problem with the Blazers recently and I don’t see that changing here.
