The Los Angeles Clippers look to continue their dominance over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night from STAPLES Center.
Head to head, the Mavericks are 11-5 ATS in the last 16 meetings and 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings in Los Angeles while the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings and the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Clippers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 vs. Western Conference, but just 7-15 ATS in their last 22 home games following a road trip of 7 or more days. The Mavericks on the other hand are 43-18 ATS in their last 61 road games and 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600, but just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
You would expect the public to be all over the Los Angeles Clippers tonight, especially considering they are at home, a place where they have won 31 of a possible 36 games this season. However, the Dallas Mavericks are a real chance to cause the upset, at least from an agaisnt the spread point stand point anyway. Here's why:
I don't think this get mentioned enough, but the Mavs have covered the spread in 43 of their last 61 games away from home. Do you realise how hard this is to do? Not only that, but Dallas is also 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road games against teams with a great home winning percentage, meaning they are really good against the elite teams. In their last road game, the Mavericks took down the league-leading Oklahoma City Thunder 109-86.
While the Clippers have won three straight and six of the last seven against Dallas, the last two meetings in Los Angeles resulted in an LA win by just two points and then in overtime victory 109-102.
As far as totals go, the over has to be automatically considered here given both teams love to score the ball. Their last four meetings have resulted in totals of 212, 256, 231 and 211 total points. Individually, the Mavs have actually been the better team recently, going over 120 points in four of their last seven games overall. While the Clipps have slowed down somewhat, they are coming off three straight road games where they scored 109, 118 and 114 points in three straight victories.
I'll take the over thanks. Each of their last four meetings have all gone over 211 total points and individually, the Mavs have scored over 211 in six of seven while the each of the last four for the Clippers has tallied more than 211. We should see plenty of scoring once again...
